The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has blacklisted 48 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres over their involvement in extortion and organised examination malpractices during the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB: 48 CBT Centres Blacklisted For Malpractice In 2017 UTME Exams

JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja at a news conference at the end of an enlarged meeting with external examiners and other stakeholders in the conduct of the 2017 UTME.

Oloyede, who also announced the cancellation of the results of 59,698 candidates who sat for the examination, said another 24 CBT centres had been suspended for one year for failing to live up to expectations.

“The (24 CBT) centres will not participate in the 2018 UTME, but they can be reconsidered for 2019 and above.

“The delisting of 48 centres from participating in the board’s examination in future is as a result of serious technical deficiencies, extortion, organised examination malpractices and other damaging infractions.”

He said that JAMB had fixed July 1, 2017 as the date for supplementary examination for candidates who registered late for this year’s UTME.

Oloyede added that some of the candidates whose results were cancelled, would also take part in the rescheduled exam.

The JAMB boss said the decision to allow the candidates sit for the rescheduled examination was reached after a thorough review of all the reports that emanated from their centres.

According to him, 1,386 candidates have their results cancelled over examination malpractice; 57,646 results were also affected as a result of centres-induced malpractices while the results of 666 candidates were cancelled due to multiple examinations.

He listed the categories of candidates whose results were cancelled but would take part in the rescheduled examination to include candidates of centres with mass malpractices but who are deemed innocent, biometric non-verification machine related issues.

Others include technical and log out issues, late registration, incomplete results and candidates who lost examination sessions due to malfunctioning of servers at the affected centre.

As part of efforts to address the educational needs of personnel and its host communities, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has established a new secondary school at its Base in Shasha, Lagos State.

The newly built secondary school with 18 well furnished classrooms, 5 fully equipped laboratories, a well stocked library, modern recreational facilities as well as other state of the art facilities, is part of the NAF's modest way of adding value to its host communities.

Apart from bringing much relief to parents who had to travel a long distance to enroll their children in secondary schools, the new school would also provide employment opportunities for members of the host community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Guest of Honour and one time Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi Bello (Retired) lauded the current NAF leadership for sustaining the tradition of positive contribution towards the development of children education in NAF bases and environments.

He noted that the importance of education in modelling the citizenry of any nation could not be overemphasised. “Education is the veritable tool for living a responsible life”, he said.

In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar stated that the the building of the school was necessitated by the quest to meet the educational requirements of the dependants of NAF personnel and members of the host communities.

In his words, "education is the foundation for human capital development and therefore, a key factor in technical advancement and innovation”. Earlier in his address, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya expressed appreciation to the CAS for the choice of Logistics Command as a suitable location for the new school.

The CAS used the opportunity to equally commission 2 blocks of adequately furnished airmen's transit accommodation on the Base to further reduce accommodation shortage. Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the NAF recently built other secondary schools, including the Air Force Comprehensive Girls School, Abuja, as a way of contributing to the Federal Government's efforts to resolve the girl child education issue.

No fewer than 5,230 newly-admitted students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, for the 2016/2017 session, took Matriculation Oath today with the Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, urging them to be good ambassadors of the University, their families, the nation and the world at large.

AAUA Matriculates 5,230 During 2016/2017 Matriculation Ceremony

Addressing the matriculating students after the Matriculation Oath was administered on them by the Registrar, Mr. Sunday Ayeerun, Prof. Ajibefun said, “Adekunle Ajasin University has zero tolerance for indiscipline, vices, and crimes.

“As you take your Matriculation Oath today, I urge you to desist from vices such as cult activities, examination misconduct, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape and violent tendencies that can rob you of your hard-earned studentship. I implore you to make a commitment today to be good ambassadors of the University, your families, the nation and the world.”

Congratulating the students on their admission, the VC said that 17,739 applicants chose AAUA out which 26 percent were admitted. He, therefore, asked them to consider themselves lucky to “belong to this paltry number.”

Prof. Ajibefun urged the parents and guardians of the matriculating students and other parents in AAUA to cooperate with the University in providing functional training to the students and to mould them to be responsible students and ultimately become valuable world citizens.

The VC reiterated that all the programmes being offered by AAUA are accredited by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

He added that the University is imbued with committed and hard-working academic and non-academic staff who are poised to helping students to achieve their academic goals. He urged the students to take advantage of the robust platform offered them by the University to be the best they could be.
